SATURDAY
wampanoag nation singers & dancers
The Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers are a group of musicians, educators, and artisans from the tribal communities of Mashpee on Cape Cod, Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard, and Herring Pond in Bourne. Our performances of eastern social songs and dances have both educated and entertained audiences of all ages in museums, schools, and various multi-cultural events. We dress in our traditional clothing and our songs are accompanied by a water drum and handcrafted rattles. We encourage audience participation and prefer to dance with the people instead of for the people.
The Harwich Cranberry Festival is honored to include, for the first time, members of the tribal communities to share some of their traditions.
We are humbled to acknowledge that we live on the lands settled and inhabited for more than 10,000 years by the Wampanoag, the People of the First Light.
The Drumma Queens of Cape Cod
The Drumma Queens of Cape Cod celebrate life’s rhythms. They are an all-women percussion ensemble that creates joyful noise and positive, healing vibrations wherever and whenever they perform. They drum, sing, dance and tell stories that create a memorable experience for their audiences.
"Everyone in the audience left {the performance} with a smile on their face"
Grace Morrison
grace morrison band
She’s a little bit of everything—pianist, accordion player, Renaissance Faire performer, cranberry grower, reader of historical nonfiction, coffee devotee (she sells her own coffee blend), and an unapologetic expert on all things New England. And somehow, all these quirks weave seamlessly into the fabric of her music, making her one of the most unique and endearing songwriters around. Born and raised on the shores of Cape Cod, Grace Morrison has trademarked a sound she calls Saltwater Country. “I was always too pop for folk and too folk for country. Eventually, I started peeling back the layers of my music to find out what truly made it mine. At the heart of it all was my deep, undeniable connection to the Cape Cod coastline—it’s in my blood, in my voice, in every lyric I write. My music carries the storytelling of country, the twang, but also the raw, unshakable spirit of a Swamp Yankee. That’s Saltwater Country.”
The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a costumed funk/street beat improvisational brass band performing a unique blend of original and traditional music. Leader Ken Field is a longtime member of the modern music ensemble Birdsongs of the Mesozoic.
ENTRAIN
back by popular demand!
— ENTRAIN has appeared at the CranJam more than any other band
— Boston Music Award-winning Best Live Act
Epic in sound and kaleidoscopic in vision, the eclectic Martha's Vineyard-based Entrain has been thrilling critics and fans alike since its inception. Formed and led by drummer Tom Major in 1993 .... praised for their ability to shift effortlessly between musical styles - from rock, blues, calypso and ska, to zydeco, jazz and funk - often within the same song. "The whole Entrain concept is based on the drums and infectious rhythms. Once we've got that.... anything goes, everything goes," explains Major. "The most important thing that we try to do with our music is bring everybody together in the spirit of peace, love, fun and a ton of drums!"
Entrain's goal is not just to be the biggest and the best, says Major. "We want to create music that makes people feel good. When we look out from the stage, all we see is smiling faces of all ages and bodies moving. You can't beat that feeling. At the same time if we can help to promote positive values and lifestyles... great! There's enough negativity in the world, let's spread a little joy around and watch how infectious it can be."
